EFFECTIVE AND INDEPENDENT LEARNING |
|
|
|
|
| |
E-homework is a set of learning materials for young children to learn their individual school subjects with the relevant topics independently. The subjects provided consist of Mathematics, Science, Chinese, Malay and English Language.
The learning materials include workbooks and individualised online learning account. The online learning account can allow children to access to lessons and tests. The attempts in the online account will be recorded for future references and revisions.
How can e-homework can assist children to learn better and in a more effective way compared to conventional ways of learning?
In our conventional way of learning, children learn from group teaching-school teachers or tuition teachers, or one-way teaching method by parents or personal guidance by some content experts.
For group teaching, the learning model is very teacher-centered and it has too many unnecessary elements that take up too much time. In one-on-one teaching method, it is more individualised but the time spent is limited. In both of these methods, children are not trained to learn independently in the long run.
In the advanced modern environment that we have today, technology has changed our way of living in almost every aspect. Children can learn from a systematically done "Teach-Ware" and the understanding of the topic can be further confirmed by a "Test-Ware". The Test-Ware has to be consistent enough to assure the results achieved are representative and it has to be valid to the topic or the area assessed.

CAN THE CHILDREN LEARN INDEPENDENLY WITHOUT ANY GUIDANCE? |
| |
|
|
| |
It is very difficult for children to learn independently without any guidance. Therefore, we need a facilitator. The facilitator will guide and supervise the progress of the child. The facilitator can be a childcare center assigned tutor or parents at home.
Basically, guidance for children will become less once they are familiar with the system. Our e-learning administrators will assist you to guide your children by providing you the relevant progress reports. |

THE UNIQUENESS OF E-HOMEWORK METHOD |
| |
|
|
| |
Individualised Learning : Effective learning occurs when the materials being learned are on par with the student's ability. Individualised Learning begins when it is effective to the learners and helps children succeed in school by realizing their full potential.
Self-Learning : Children need to develop new study habits and attitudes towards learning. The new skills and perception, together with balanced study materials would improve your child's school performance, concentration and self-discipline. With the right attitudes, children are able to set goals and solve unfamiliar and challenging tasks independently. This is promoted through systematically arranged e-homework methods and e-homework materials. The main objective of self-learning is to develop the students' ability to think and acquiring the wisdom to tackle problems using the best of one's abilities.

CURRENT LEARNING MODEL |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Change is needed in our current educational model. The teacher-centered model of conventional education still in use in many of today's schools are no longer in the best interest of the students. The learning model for children to acquire new knowledge needs to be changed. It is not only because of the integration and use of new technologies but also due to a general need to change the paradigm of new learning models in accordance woth new demands of the knowledge society now. The changes are needed because:
-
the capability of knowledge that a child needs to acquire has increased tremendously
-
the cost of guiding children is getting higher
-
the duration allowed for a child to acquire a new knowledge has to be short
-
independence of children to source for new knowledge is critically important
Digital technology is not only changing the way information can be acquired; it is also rapidly changing the job market. Many of us believe that education is a potential business but many attempts fail. This is because conventional education is narrow in scope, controlled largely by the teacher and focused predominantly on basic skills.
To "learn how to learn," students must take charge of their education through direct exploration, expression and experience. A learning revolution is occurring with a technology-driven, student-centered teaching model emerging. This model is democratic, as students and teachers share responsibility for both teaching and learning. Rather than the teacher being the "gatekeeper" of information, the students construct their learning by actively seeking their own information. In fact, teachers becomes more the "guides on the sides" helping the students to access, organize and transfer information to find answers to real life problems. | |
| |
|
|
| |
Why should we change to this new systems of learning? The key elements are:
-
save the cost of managing staff
-
students work at their own pace
-
save parents time in providing children's transportation
-
parents feel free and safe to enrol their children at the centre with the independent learning series.
In conclusion, with the rapid changes in history and culture, textbook-based teacher led learning has become obsolete. Instead, multimedia and online resources are replacing these obsolete approaches to create an interactive learner-centered classroom. We need a system that allows children to be more proactive in their education development by giving them the tools to learn themselves. Although the concept of the transition from teacher-centered to student-centered learning is new and tough, we can't deny that it is the effective way to put learning back in teaching while providing for students with the tools for life long learning. The resultant success as examplified in this adage, "Don't look out of the box, but jump out of it."
